2015 November Meeting from Oasis of Hope CCSG

For November’s meeting, the theme was being thankful.  The comment was made, “Don’t let me forget what I’ve learned on this cancer journey.”  We need to remember God’s word, “In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you” I Thessalonians 5:18.  It’s not that we are thankful for the cancer, but rather we find things to be thankful for as we travel this cancer journey.

Research indicates that people who have a grateful mindset have advantages over those with a negative mindset.  Learning to find things to be thankful for can bring benefits, such as being happier, being more alert, having a stronger immune system, having less aches and pains, and getting a better night’s sleep.  Taking a moment to acknowledge something good can be an instant mood boaster.

Some helpful tips on how to be thankful include the following:  1) write it - write down what you are thankful for; 2) speak it - tell someone what you are thankful for, including telling God in prayer; and 3) stick to it - get in a habit of being thankful on a daily basis.

We need to remember that life if fragile.  Each day is a gift from God.  We need to be thankful that we are alive, thankful for our families, and thankful for God’s gifts and blessings.  God promises to never leave us, and he helps us through our difficult times. We should not spend our todays dreading what is in tomorrow.  We need to live in the moment, learn to laugh, and never forget where we have come from.

If you are traveling life’s journey burdened with cancer, come join us at our next Oasis of Hope Christian Cancer Support Group meeting.  We are here to support you with encouragement and prayer.  We meet the third Tuesday of each month at 7:00 P.M. We welcome you to join us.
