When we lose a loved one, who has fought the cancer battle, we tend to be sorrowful.  We need to keep our mind on the victory that is won in the death of a saint.  The Bible tells us, “Death is swallowed up in victory. O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory?” (I Corinthians 15:54-55).  Even though we miss our dear loved ones and friends who have gone on before us, we need not be sorrowful for those who have put their trust in Jesus as Lord and Savior.

Jesus said, “I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live:  And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die” (John 11:25-26).

Even though there are some in our group who leave us, they have gone to a much better place.  Their departure is not an end to life, but rather a continuation of their eternal life.  Even though the physical body ceases to be with us, the eternal soul lives on.  For we who have put our trust in the Lord Jesus Christ as our personal Savior, our departure here only means our arrival to our final destination.

Just as the words to the hymn remind us, “This world is not my home, I’m just passing through.  My treasures are laid up somewhere beyond the blue.”  But the words to the final verse give us more reason to rejoice, “Just up in Glory Land, we’ll live eternally.  The Saints on every hand are shouting victory.  Their song of sweetest praise drifts back from Heaven’s shore, and I can’t feel at home in this world anymore.”

Our life on earth is just a temporary existence.  We are pilgrims on a journey. Heaven is our final destination.  To ever dwell in the presence with our Lord, is our final resting place.  Oh what a day that will be, when we see Jesus face to face.  So let us run this race with perseverance not forgetting the reward of eternal life with our Lord.

The words to the chorus of another great hymn remind us, “It will be worth it all when we see Jesus!  Life’s trials will seem so small, when we see Christ.  One glimpse of his dear face, all sorrow will erase.  So, bravely run the race, til we see Christ.”

We are here to support you with encouragement and prayers.  If you are traveling life’s journey burdened with cancer, come join us at our next Oasis of Hope Christian Cancer Support Group meeting.  You’ll be glad that you did.  We meet the third Tuesday of each month at 7:00 P.M. We hope to see you there.
